Dr David Blakey MBBS, FRANZCR
Dr David Blakey is a highly experienced radiation oncologist, now working at Icon Cancer Centre at The Bays. David completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Melbourne in 1987, and then undertook his specialist training in radiation oncology at Peter Mac, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in 1995. David was appointed to the senior medical staff at Peter Mac that same year, where he remained until 2006, before leaving Peter Mac to establish a new radiation oncology treatment facility at Frankston Private.
David has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the Mornington Peninsula Shire community, serving as a Visiting Radiation Oncologist at Peninsula Health since 2000, and working at Frankston Private from 2006 to 2024. He actively contributes to the region’s healthcare governance as a current member of The Bays Private Hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee.
Dr Blakey’s dedication to clinical quality and safety is evident through his leadership roles on various advisory committees. He served as Chair of the Safety and Quality Committee for Radiation Oncology Victoria for many years, and has been a member of the Southern Metropolitan Integrated Cancer Service’s (SMICS) Breast Tumour Group, as well as Cancer Council Victoria’s Victorian Chemotherapy Cooperative Group (VCOG) Breast Trials Sub-Committee.
In addition to his clinical and governance responsibilities, David has held several medical education roles, fostering the development of future radiation oncologists. His notable positions include Member of the Education Board and Senior Education Officer for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), as well as Radiation Oncology Divisional Executive and member of the Education Working Party for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC). He also served as the inaugural Convenor of the Victorian Radiation Oncology Joint Training Committee.
Dr Maree Sexton MBBS, FRANZCR
Dr Maree Sexton is a passionate radiation oncologist with over 19 years of experience providing cancer care for the local Mornington Peninsula Shire community. Known for her empathetic and professional approach, she is committed to delivering the highest standard of care, ensuring patients receive attentive, compassionate, and comprehensive support throughout their treatment journey.
Dr Maree Sexton is an experienced Radiation Oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre at The Bays. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Monash University in 1982 and obtained her Fellowship in Radiation Oncology from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 1993. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management from Monash University (2003), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Aesthetics from the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery (2014).Dr Sexton has extensive experience in both private and public healthcare across South Eastern Melbourne. She works closely with local multidisciplinary teams to develop effective treatment plans for her patients and is proficient in advanced radiation therapy techniques, including Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and 3D and 4D CT planning.Dr Sexton’s career reflects a deep dedication to providing compassionate, comprehensive cancer care while advancing educational and supportive services for patients and colleagues alike.She has made significant contributions to policy development and staff training, particularly advocating for same-gender care policies. She was also instrumental in establishing the onTrac@PeterMac Program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, a holistic support service for paediatric and adolescent cancer survivors, and chaired the Paediatric, Late Effects, and Adolescent and Young Adult Clinical Service from 2002 to 2005.
